Archive for December, 2016

Yep, it’s that time of year again, when we take the lazy way out and regale you with an end-of-the-year countdown lisitcle kind of thing. But let’s be honest; you’re probably too geared up for your New Year’s Eve festivities to put much effort into reading anything, so it benefits both of us.

So here we go, the top items of 2016!

PATCHES

  1. TerrifiCon_PawneeGoddessPawnee Goddess. For the second year in a row, a late-year surge in sales for Halloween pushed this patch to the top of our best-seller list. We made more than 100 of these patches this year!
  2. X-Files: I Want to Believe. Our longtime number one best-seller continues to do well and has a lock on the number two slot.
  3. Plague Survivor Geek Merit Badge. Another longtime top seller, which this year barely eked out its spot at number three over another Geek Merit Badge…
  4. Final Girl Geek Merit Badge. This design got a big boost after it was featured in an article online (sorry, I can’t find it again to re-post the link). It was a top ten seller last year and barely missed the number three position by one sale. Maybe next year!
  5. Though She Be But Little, She Is Fierce. Another past top ten seller making it into the top five! I’m always thrilled when someone buys a Shakespeare patch.

In the interest of efficiency, I’ll just spotlight the top items across my non-patch catalog of items.

Away Team Science Small 1The best-selling bag of 2016 is the blue Science version of our Star Trek-inspired Away Team bags. These were always the best selling bags at shows and we hope the love for them continues in 2017, our first year as a strictly online business.

Our top scarf design was the Harley Quinn-inspired harlequin scarf. Our best-selling necktie design featured the anti-demonic possession tattoo from Supernatural — which, I will note, will soon be retired as a design, so if you want to get one, go order one now! And our top embroidered bookmark was inspired by the greatest stage direction of all time, from Shakespeare’s A Winter’s Tale, “Exit, Pursued by a Bear.”

One of the gifts we received at Christmas was a copy of the 2016 Ghostbusters reboot. While the original is still our favorite, we enjoyed the new version a lot (and I think we can all agree it was WAY better than Ghostbusters 2).

mass-hysteriaWith that in mind, this week we’re spotlighting some of our ghostly designs, starting with a patch inspired by one of the many, many quotable lines from the original film. The Mass Hysteria! patch ($10 at our web store) features a cat and a dog living together in perfect harmony — surely a sign of the end of days.

Ghost HunterNext, for all you aspiring Ghostbusters, we have the Ghost Hunter Geek Merit Badge ($8 at our web store), which features a ghost that glows in the dark. Oooo, spooky!

Finally we have this simple patch featuring a cute little ghost trying its best to scare you (and failing adorably). This ghost also glows in the dark (as shown below), and you can get it from our webstore for just $8.

On Tuesday we unveiled our new Frankenstein-inspired design, which we’ve made available not only as an embroidered bookmark but on assorted merchandise through our Redbubble shop.

When it comes to offering items through Redbubble, I often have to experiment with placement so the design works well on whatever item it’ll appear on. Sometimes, no matter how much I tweak and fiddle, a design simply does not work on certain items, so I make the decision to simply not offer a specific piece of merchandise.

I made that decision this week when I realized that the Frankenstein design, when placed on a skirt, was a little too suggestive for its own good. The placement of the hand and the lightning made the piece unintentionally humorous, so I thought it better to take a pass on skirts — but far be it from me to turn up a chance to share a juvenile laugh with everyone, so for your amusement, here’s what the skirt looked like. Enjoy, and we hope everyone has a great Christmas weekend!

Good morning, everyone!

The holidays are almost upon us, which means the Storied Threads studio will be shutting down for a few days. We will continue to fill orders through tomorrow afternoon, at which point we will close up shop so we can get ready to enjoy some well-deserved family time. We plan to be back in the studio by Tuesday, at which point we will resume filling orders. We apologize for any delays this might create, and we appreciate your patience and understanding.

However, we will be checking e-mail while we’re gone, so if you have any questions regarding an outstanding order, please give us a shout at veronica@storiedthreads.com.

frankenstein-bookmarkIt’s been a while since we added something to our line of embroidered bookmarks, so we’re thrilled to finally unveil a design we’ve been toying with for a few months now.

Inspired by Mary Shelley’s immortal work of science fiction, our Frankenstein bookmark depicts the hand of the newly created creature stirring to life for the first time against a stormy sky. The lightning in this design is rendered in glow-in-the-dark thread for an extra cool finishing touch. Get it now for just $10 from our webstore or Etsy shop.

If you love the design but want it as something other than a patch, head over to our Redbubble shop to get it on phone cases, laptop skins, T-shirts, stickers, and other items.frankensteinrb
