Clue is, without a doubt, my favorite movie of all time. My sister and I watched it so many times as kids that by the time I left for college, we had lost count — but we’d definitely seen it over 50 times. We could – and did – recite the dialogue along with the actors. Or sometimes, even without the actors, simply quoting the movie back and forth to each other. My parents, I’m quite certain, loved this habit. I’m sure they never once regretted buying this movie on VHS. Twice. Since we watched the first one so much the tape wore out.
When my husband and I went on our first date, we went back to my place after dinner — and watched Clue. I tried unbelievably hard not to actually say the lines along with the movie — it was a first date after all! I was certain I’d succeeded, until a few years later, when he told me that I had actually lip synced most of the movie without even realizing it. Honestly, it’s a wonder to me that he asked me on a second date after that.
Earlier this week, Clue celebrated its 30th anniversary. So, happy anniversary to Mrs. White, Miss Scarlet, Colonol Mustard, Mrs. Peacock, Mr. Green, Professor Plum, and of course, Wadsworth.
