I think we’ve established quite firmly we here at Storied Threads are book lovers, and we know a lot of our fans are too. This week’s design is for you.

The Bibliophile’s Bookcase depicts five classic novels sitting on a shelf waiting to be read (or perhaps re-read): Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights, Little Women, Sense and Sensibility, and Silas Marner. We plan to roll out quite a few variations on this patch — we already have a classic science fiction version ready to test-run — so eventually you’ll be able to choose from a wide variety of pre-fab patches.

BUT WAIT! If you’d like a patch that reflects your particular tastes, we can customize this patch to your liking! Just order the patch and tell us which five book titles you’d like to see and we’ll make it for you.

The basic patch is $11. A custom version using your five titles is $16.

You can also grab this design (stock version only) at our Redbubble shop.

It’s no secret we here at Storied Threads are avid readers and draw a lot of inspiration from our favorite books — and we’re definitely in a literary frame of mind as Boskone, a Boston-based convention that focuses heavily on genre literature, is coming up in a few weeks.

(Sorry, folks, we won’t be there vending, we’re just going to actually go to the con as guests. That’ll be a new experience!)

bibliophileSo this week we’re spotlighting some items that should be of interest to our reader friends, starting with the Bibliophile Geek Merit Badge ($7). We also offer variations of this design on an embroidered bookmark and on a messenger bag. FYI, we haven’t made tablet or laptop sizes in this design yet, but if that sounds like something you or a fellow reader would be interested in, drop us a line and ask about a custom order!

me-timeSpeaking of bookmarks, we have several designs listed in our Literature section, but I’m going to spotlight the “Me Time” bookmark ($8).

We came up with this idea after hearing a lot of stories — too many, in our opinion — of people being harassed in coffee shops and on public transit while they were just trying to sit and read in peace.

Make sure the top of this bookmark is peeking out and send a clear message that you’re not there to chat, you’re there to read.

Nevermore Messenger Bag

Nevermore Messenger Bag

While we honor several great authors, we’re going to pick on Edgar Allan Poe for our final item, a messenger bag bearing the most famous line he ever wrote, from the poem The Raven ($34). As it happens, the basic messenger bag is the perfect size for holding a hardcover or trade paperback size book!

Remember, these and other designs are also available as stickers, laptop skins, T-shirts, and more at our Redbubble store.

frankenstein-bookmarkIt’s been a while since we added something to our line of embroidered bookmarks, so we’re thrilled to finally unveil a design we’ve been toying with for a few months now.

Inspired by Mary Shelley’s immortal work of science fiction, our Frankenstein bookmark depicts the hand of the newly created creature stirring to life for the first time against a stormy sky. The lightning in this design is rendered in glow-in-the-dark thread for an extra cool finishing touch. Get it now for just $10 from our webstore or Etsy shop.

If you love the design but want it as something other than a patch, head over to our Redbubble shop to get it on phone cases, laptop skins, T-shirts, stickers, and other items.frankensteinrb

Both of today’s new patches were originally made for a customer request.  He had shopped with us at a convention and purchased many other Lovecraft themed patches, and when he got home he sent me an email asking if these two bag designs could be done as patches as well.  When they were finished, we liked the way they looked so much that we decided to add them to our online offerings!

HerbertWestHerbert West Patch

Sure, his experiments may be deemed “immoral”, “crazy”, or “illegal” by those who don’t understand his vision. But someday? Herbert West will change the world!

This patch is made of khaki-olive cotton canvas, and embroidered in black thread with the words, “Herbert West, Miskatonic University, School of Medicine”.

This patch is available in our Etsy shop, and on our website.

After seeing Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice in New York a couple of weeks ago, I was inspired to make a patch of this quote. Shylock may be the villain of the play, but his exhortations to Antonio about the humanity of the Jewish people feels as relevant in today’s political climate as ever.

This design is available as a patch on our website, and as a sticker in our Redbubble shop.
